Education

Education constitutes the largest proportion of UNESCO’s activities. UNESCO provides global and regional leadership in education, strengthens education systems worldwide, and responds to contemporary global challenges. UNESCO has been entrusted to lead the Global Education 2030 Agenda. For more information about the education programme see here.

In Estonia the focus is mostly on the following UNESCO´s education themes and programmes:

– SDG 4 and target 4.7;

– Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship Education;

– Youth empowerment;

– UNESCO Associated Schools and Baltic Sea Project.

“Ten years of Education for Sustainable Development in Estonia” by Ms. Imbi Henno, the Chief Expert of Ministry of Education and Research of Estonia, provides a good overview about the initiatives and programs implemented in Estonia during the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014).
